Lan Access

i have connected two computers simply with an ethernet cable without using any modem or router or internet connection. I can access one way but the other way says
"you are not authorized to access"

I guessed it must be the problem with user accounts but I can solve the problem. Please help.

Are you using a regular ethernet cable? Because if so that is why, you need to use a Crossover Ethernet cable to do what you are describing there.

Create a user account on the machine you can't connect to with the same name/password as is used to login to the connecting computer.

If that's not the issue, make sure you've disabled any firewalls.

the thing is i have guest account enabled in both. from laptop to desktop access it asks me for password with username as guest and i type the password and it logs in. from desktop to laptop it again asks me for password with username as guest and i type the password but it says you do not have rights to access the resource. I have set password for guest account and i use the same. to avoid confusion i have used the same guest passwords in both the computers(one desktop and one laptop).

Have you tried another name/password on the machine you can't connect to? If that doesn't work, try this.

1. Start Registry Editor.
2. Locate, and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ LSA
3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value Name: RestrictAnonymous
Data Type: REG_DWORD

Set the value to 0.
