Possible Proxy Problem

Try saying that 10 times fast :o)

My Brother just came back from uni for chrimbo and got his computer all connected up to the network, internet explorer works fine but messenger and World of Warcraft wont connect.
That computer connects directly to the modem.
He is running windows xp without service pack 2 (would it help to install it?)

At uni he had to go through a proxy server to connect (which didnt allow WoW and p2p) but the proxy server settings in internet explorer are disabled, ive had that computer working fine before he went away

Any help would be appreciated
