Netgear rp614, one computer "gone"

Hi again!

Been awhile, but I got a great help from here last time I visited (almost a year ago) so I thought I would try again.

Looked around this and other forums for 4 hours now and tried myself before that for 3 hours, so I am getting a bit annoyed.

Moved to a new apartment with a 100/10 connection (DSL I think?). Need to connect my "old" computer (shown in my sig.) with an even older running winME through a new Netgear rp614 router.

The goal is to have both computers to be able to connect to the internet at the same time and also have a "private" LAN.

What doesn´t work:
The computer running winME (when connected to the router) can´t ping either the router or XP-comp. And can´t get on the internet.
With or without XP-comp connected at the same time.

What happens:
XP gets an IP-address 192.168.02 (works fine except can´t contact winME).
router has 192.168.01
winME still gets the same address as it should have gotten if running on the internet without the router.

Both computers can access the internet without the router (only one at a time though ).

What has been done:
1. Followed the instructions on the first computer (XP), when told to type in IP-addresses I wrote in the ones I had just before plugging in the router. Worked fine and can access internet.

2. Plugged in winME into the router and restarted everything: broadband cable then started router then started computers. (This were when the problem with winME was shown).

3. Looked for something about PPPoE in the router settings, found none.

4. Lowered the security for winMEs internet connection from higest to normal.

restart....

5. trying to manually apply 192.168.0.3 to winME

restart...

6. checking back and forth on the winME computer without results.

each restart consisted of: removing broadband cable - unplugging router - turn off computers... then attaching broadband cable - plugging in the router - starting computers.

The lights on the internetcards and the router works fine, tried switching
around on the 4 available ports on the router without success.

Maybe I should add that the winME computer have been set up for LAN (without internet) before, so those settings were probably applied and never removed. Think it is set to that right now.

Any help would be appreciated. Many of the simple tasks have been tried, but I know that there are always something to miss. I am a total noob in routers I can add .

Thinking that there must be a problem with the settings on winME. The manual says that I should set to autodetect DNS, but I haven´t used windows millenium in some time so I don´t understand how to do that (only options are: activate/inactivate).

I tried to specify the problem as good as possible. But since noone replied I should say that ANYTHING is appreciated here! Probably a simple thing I missed in the settings on winME, but tell me how to do it right!
You can get me on the right way!

/Goran

edit: will try to install XP on winME-comp and try again... but everything on that will be lost! It is my brothers computer and he have a lot to keep... any other way?

Solved

I made a fresh new install of windows xp on the one with millenium. After that everything worked without any additional fixes or settings .
