I'm stumped. We have 4 PC's connected thru router to cable modem. Recently had to replace the Linksys WRT54G as it died (solid red diag light). Chose a Linksys WRT54GX2 (MIMO) and everything works perfectly EXCEPT when 2 or more PC's are playing internet games (like CounterStrike)...both people get weird laginess / jumpiness when on an internet server making it pretty much unplayable. When only one person is playing, all is well.
- Both gaming computers are wired - Didn't have the same issue w/ the older Linksys - Took back new Linksys and tried a Belkin Wireless G plus MIMO...guess what: same problem! - As far as I can tell, nothing else has changed Help!?

hmm dont know.. Only thing i would guess it that there is something wrong with the MIMO and handling of high bandwith processes. I dont know much about it but it seems thats the only thing that has changed from the old router.
List of possilbe solutions 1) Update routers firmware (just to be safe) and make sure all settings on router are ok. 2) Maybe your routers new firewall is getting in the way with all the packets being sent and recieved. 3) make sure all ports are forwarded that are needed to run the games. 4) Buy a WRT54G (like i have) and scrap the new one. Just a list of common problems with lag with routers... See if any of these work |

It turns out my WRT54G wasn't dead...just the external power supply. I bought another PS from Radio Shack, and the old router came up fine. Yay! When I took back the Belkin MIMO router to Best Buy, the techie sales guy said he had heard of the problem before...apparently some new routers limit the bandwidth per port, so one port won't hog it all. If so, that's a bunch of crap.
Anyway, old router is up and no more problem. |
