Intermittant Problem Sending E-mails

Hey Everybody,

I've been having this problem since putting my new computer together back in January (see below). My ISP (Everyone's Internet) told me back in February that it's originating at my end because of WinXP SP2 Home. I installed Ad-Aware, and Spy-Bot in March, and Symantech's AV'05, with limited success, having recurrent episodes about every 3 to 4 weeks. Since this last time (8/31), no amount of spy-ware or virus scans (no mal-ware was discovered) have gotten the desired results. Everything else on my comp. seems to be working just fine.

Here is the IE Outlook error message I'm getting:

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Everyones Internet', Server: 'smtp.ev1.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

Any suggestions? Should I re-install my modem, and internet links? Or is there a simple diagnostic tool I can use to find out where the problem originates? This has been truly frustrating! Thanks for any help.

Computer: Asus K8NE-Deluxe, Athlon 64 3400+ CPU,1 Gb Corsair RAM, 2-Samsung 120Gb HD's, 2-CD/DVD RW's, Audigy SZ Sound-Blaster, Sapphire Radeon X800 SE Graphics card.

Try resetting your networking protocols first with WinsockFix:

Outlook or Outlook Express email?

Well, I gave Winsock Fix a try, but no joy! In fact, I tried it twice, and am still getting the same errror message as before. Any more ideas? I'm running Outlook Express. Thanks!

This could be a problem with your ISP's mailserver. I'm not buying XP-SP2 is the issue, or we'd be buried with these issues here.

Agreed.....

So you are actually "wired in" to your ISP when trying to send mail? I ask because some folks try to use an SMTP server for an ISP while using another ISP. Usually, the mail servers won't permit a remote request like that one.

I've been using Everyone's Internet exclusively for four-five years now. The sending of e-mails has been the only problem, and seems to work fine for several weeks before deciding to not work. My thought is that my ISP has gotten very aggressive with spam and, in tweaking their system to prevent malware, it has decided to ignore my computer's protocols. It's funny that I can send messages through venues such as this, using other ISP's though. That would seem to rule out the problem at my end - or not??! GRRRRR.....Thanks again!

Are you using a router? If you are, i had a problem like this a while back when i had to reset my router settings, i mustve messed something up. So if you are, try that.

Hi Nemesis,
Nope, no router - just a slow dial-up modem going through my ISP. However, the headquarters for Everyone's Internet is in Houston, TX., and I'm in Georgia, so my messages are routed via Atlanta to Texas - and back (just another layer of interconnectedness waiting to mess up). Thanks!

Nemesis Registered User Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Va, USA Posts: 222 OS: Win2000.xp.vista.03server.	Are you using a router? If you are, i had a problem like this a while back when i had to reset my router settings, i mustve messed something up. So if you are, try that.
