Wireless Network Protocols
Me, my brother, and my father had our computers networked using standard ethernet ports. Recently we upgraded the network to a wireless network with USB adapters. All of the adaptors are the same. Both my fathers computers worked fine, installed and connected to each other. Mine and my brothers computers have been thwarting all attempts to work.
I found out the problem is that both of my fathers computers have got the Aegis IEEE 802.11g protocols installed but it won't install at all on our computers. We can't find them at all on the CD that came with the router or the adapters. Anyone know if I can download them from anywhere or have any suggestions? All would be appreciated. |

How about the version and patch level of the Windows in use? Also, the make/model of the USB adapters and the router in use.

My father's computers are running Win XP Pro (unsure which pack) and Win 98 SE.
Mine is running Win XP Pro and first try it was Service Pack 1 but I reinstalled to try it with a fresh install. My brother is running XP Pro Service Pack 2, he also tried it under Win 98 SE but it didn't work. The USB adapters are Edimax EW-7317Ug and the router is an Edimax AR-7024Wg. |

This client, AEGIS Client API Suite, appears to be what your father has. I've never seen this before, but it appears the connection may be encrypted. I don't see anything special in the router you have, have you checked it's configuration? I'd start with no encryption, then work from there. What does your father say about all this?
You could try a wire to the router, it worked before. ![]()

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try as soon as I can. My father just says we need to get it sorted.
I haven't personally checked the router configuration but both my brother and my father have (we're all fairly decent with computers) and they didn't see anything in them that would be causing the problem. My brother has tried a direct cable to the router but all it didn't have any greater results. Last edited by Cap J : 06-10-2005 at 07:15 AM. |

I installed the program but it didn't work. It installed the protocols along with a 30 day trial program. Somehow my father has the protocols without the program, when I uninstalled the program off my machine it took the protocols with it.

I'm at a loss to explain how you fix this, I know nothing about that client.

Thanks for the help, anyway.
Update: The AEGIS Client had a status indicator and for my system it was showing that it was receiving a signal but it wasn't responding to the 802.1x packets. Last edited by Cap J : 06-11-2005 at 04:40 PM. |
