In my networking scenario, we use few of D-link (L2) and few Cisco L2 switches and some of them are manageable and some are not.
So , my question is can I use STP protocol for loop avoidance and also MAC-Port binding in my scenario or not, Is it compulsory to have : 1) All L2 switches must be manageable. or 2) All L2 switches must be from same company (i.e All D-link or All Cisco) |

Re: Stp protocol
All switches that are going to be part of the RSTP group need to be manageable.
So sure you could have unmanage switch on the edge, or not part of the group, that would be fine (aka you won't be able to make redundant links with that switch) If all switches understand RSTP, then you can use any make switch ... i would personally pick one type for simplicity. |

Re: Stp protocol
Hi Rajeev,
There is not need that all the switches are from a same manufacture. All kind of manageable switches supports STP. I Would suggest to use all unmanagable switch at the end point of the network. Can you provide some brief information about the network? Regards, L8ians |
