port forwarding xbox 360 please help
I have a Linksys WRT54GS router. I set my xbox IP address to manual and 192.168.1.250. Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0. Gateway to 192.168.1.1. and Primary DNS to 192.168.1.1.
Then I went into my router settings and did this for ports 53, 80, 88 and 3074: Port Range: 53 - 53, Protocol: Both, IP Address: 192.168.1.250, Enable. Enabled that for ports 53, 80, 88, and 3074. Reset router, tried playing Left 4 Dead and still have a red bar connection. Went to my router's status page and noticed the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and primary DNS all did not match up. Do they need to? Can anyone help me with what I'm doing wrong? I'l be forever in your debt.... just trying to get my xbox to have a fast setting :( |

Re: port forwarding xbox 360 please help
The Xbox should have the same subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS as the router, and the IP address should be outside of the DHCP range. For instance, if the DHCP range is 192.168.1.100-199, then the Xbox's IP should have its last octet being a number such as 192.168.1.50 or 192.168.1.240, which are outside the range. It sounds like you have it setup like that.
What is the make and model of your modem? (The device that connects to the WAN or Internet port of the WRT54GS?)

Re: port forwarding xbox 360 please help
I agree with the previous post. Also note that some Linksys routers are abnormal when it comes to open Nat on Xbox Live. For instance, Xbox support says to enable UPnP, but some Linksys routers actually prohibit open Nat through the enabling of UPnP. Unfortunately, I've had similar problems and have learned that newer Linksys router models have built-in firewall that causes Xbox Live Nat to be either strict or moderate. If you still are under warranty though, you should definitely talk to someone with Linksys (the online chat does not have a long wait at all, normally).
