Hi,
I have a issue with accessing the internet. My current ISP Tiscali are insisting that everything is ok, they have tested the line several times and have pushed me in the direction of NetGear who are insisting that the router is not at fault. My laptop is running XP, connected wirelessly to a Netgear DG834G router, up until a couple of days ago everything was fine until the internet speed started getting gradually slower and slower. I rebooted the laptop and since then i cannot access the internet. I can access the router page on IE8, the settings are correct for my ISP. I can ping yahoo.com and lose no packets I've tried both wired and wireless configurations I've tried another laptop I've tried another browser (firefox) I've even tried another NetGear router DG834PN (brand new) I've disabled all firewalls. Antivirus & Spamware I've changed the telephone line filter (brand new) My Iphone and PS3 cannot access the net via wi-fi either so i'm inclined to think it's not a laptop fault. Every time i try to access a web page, it says that the website is found, the progress bar rises to half way and then it displays the message "IE cannot open web page." Any help would be appreciated

Re: NetGear Router Pings but no internet.
Have you tried switching off the router, wait a minute, then power back up again ?
If that fails, do you have the ISP settings (username & password) ? If so, do a factory reset on the router. Small hole in the back, usually a paper clip will do the job. When the router starts up again you'll need to set it up again from scratch. |

Hi,
thanks for reply. Unfortunately I've tried that several times with no result. Like I say I've even bought a completely new router but even this doesn't work. Where do I go from here ? Do I change ISP, will that work? Or will I just transfer the problem over to the new ISP? I'm totally stuck. |

Re: NetGear Router Pings but no internet.
I think next I'd check for malware. Try download at www.malwarebytes.org
Sorry to say I'd never recommend tiscali, but I wouldn't start changing ISPs until having exhausted everything else. What anti virus etc do you have ? |

Eset security suite, latest version, bang up to date. Now threatened to quit tiscali. So they're sending out a non-netgear router free of charge and knocked £4 off my bill a month. Hope this works!
