PC wont take DNS server
Hello,
I am doing some work at a friend's office. He has a cable internet connection with a Linksys router. The router was installed by someone else (He is not available, I don't have the password). The router acts as a DHCP server for the network. I want to use a different DNS server (I want to use Opendns) than what the DHCP server specifies. I have gone to TCPIP properties on the XP Pro workstation and changed the IP to static and put in the DNS server I want to use. However, the original DNS server still does the resolution. I have rebooted all equipment. When I do an ipconfig /all, it does show the DNS server I want to use, but it's not really the one doing resolution. Any ideas on how I could get this to work. We just want certain PCs on the network to use Opendns, so putting Opendns servers on the router config would probably just create the opposite problem. Any ideas? TIA |

Re: PC wont take DNS server
Welcome to TSF
Your only solution for both Windows and Linux is to stop using DHCP on those workstations, remove a small block of IP's from the DHCP block, and assign the information automatically supplied by DHCP manually on each PC. |
