Network is connected but no internet response
Last summer my family set up a wireless network it worked great until early this summer when we upgraded to cable internet. Randomly the wireless internet will cease to work. The computer it's directly wired too will still have internet access but everything connected wirelessly will say that there is still a strong connection but nothing will actually be able to connect. It's still possible to connect to the router's setup page by typing in it's IP. After waiting anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes the internet will usually start working without intervention. The best way I found to make it start working again was actually going to the router pulling out the power cord and then insert it again, although this does not seem to be a surefire thing and often the internet will stop working again. Often it does this on and off about once every 2 hours, recurring for up to a half an hour at a time, for a week or two then stop, after a few more weeks it will start happening again.
My computer has a static IP which is reserved by the router, no other computer in the house does. The router we have is a linksys n router WRT160N with firmware v1.02.2. The two computers that are connected wirelessly is a laptop with vista and my desktop which is running XP. Whenever the computers disconnect it happens simultaneously so it does appear to be related to the OS. Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm am becoming extremely irritated with the whole thing and I can't seem to find any answers. |

Re: Network is connected but no internet response
Have you tried changing the channel and wireless mode in the router?

Re: Network is connected but no internet response
I am unable to change the channel the only option is auto I can change the radio band and have done so before but there was no result. I do not completely understand what you mean by wireless mode. Are you talking about like DHCP or PPPoE because I haven't touched that since I don't understand it much.

Re: Network is connected but no internet response
By wireless mode, I should have said 802.11 mode (such as B, G, N, or mixed) to match what the wireless computers/devices are using.

Re: Network is connected but no internet response
Make sure you're not using any thing that uses the same frequency that the router is using, such as cell phones or cordless phones on the same frequency. It's also possible that a neighbor or other network(s) close by are interfering with the signal. Download and install Xirrus Wifi Inspector from here to see if there are other networks using the same or close frequency.

Cell phone interference would be quite likely. Our house no longer even has a home phone everyone has a cell phone. How close would a cell phone have to be to the router to cause interference. As for other networks there's about four near us although the xirrus program only seems to pick up two or three at a time. How close would the frequency have to be the frequencies that appear right now are 2422 2462 and 2437 ours being the first one would the other two be similar enough to cause a problem? Just before I made this post the internet gave out for a minute or so.

Re: Network is connected but no internet response
How close a cell phone may be to get interference would depend somewhat on the strength of the router and the channel the router is selected to. Those frequencies correspond to channels of 1, 11, and 6 respectively. So just based on that there shouldn't be much interference. However, if one of those networks has a strong signal, say the network with the 2437 frequency, then that may be causing interference.
