[SOLVED] Trouble with Port forwarding

Hello, I'm having a problem with playing an online game, Final Fantasy XI. I used to have it on this same computer, using the same router and ISP, but I uninstalled it and didn't play for almost a year, and now when I reinstall it, it isn't working. It won't connect to the internet even though the internet is working fine. I went through a lot of troubleshooting involving their support team, and they suggest it was a portforwarding problem.

I went to its site and it says:
Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group.
TCP 25.80.110.443 or 50000 - 65535
UDP 50000 - 65535

I followed the guide: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...sy_XI_-_PC.htm

Except for the very last thing, because FFXI has a port at 65535, but the maximum in the window says 65534. I downloaded the portforward portchecker program from the site, and all of FFXI's ports work except port 80 on TCP and 65535 on both TCP and UDP.

I don't know why port 80 isnt working, and I figure 65535 isn't working because I couldn't open it.

If you need screenshots of any page from the router just say so.

And I also tried this on a seperate computer under the same router, it had the same problem but I didn't try opening the ports for it.

I'm really hoping I don't have to call the ISP, because they are Korean, and I don't speak Korean, so it'd be kind of hard to explain, and I wouldn't even know what to ask.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

Port 80 may be blocked by your ISP.
Not really sure why the router would not allow an entry for the last port. Can you post a screenshot of the error message?
Also, you could try a factory default reset of the router and then reconfigure all the ports.

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

No ISP in their right mind would block port 80 as that would prevent http access to any hosted servers.

They may use deep packet inspection technology to rate limit or block gaming IP traffic.

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

I don't know why port 80 isn't open if it is part of web access, because everything else works fine.

Here are the screenshot:

Could being outside of the US have anything to do with it? Like being regionalized? I live in South Korea at the moment, but I'm a US citizen, and I have the legal US versions of the game. Don't know why it's just coming up now though.

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

I don't think your location should have anything to do with it, and the entries look good.
Port 80 has "two" sides, an external and internal. The external port 80 should always be open, because that is what is used to access web sites hosted on port 80. However, the internal side is the side when you are trying to host a web server or other application on port 80. Then, the ISP may block incoming traffic on port 80, but again, the outgoing traffic should always be open.

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

It would be asking if they block ports.

Actually, blocking incoming requests to port 80 is very common for a lot of ISP's, including Comcast and Verizon here in the US. Remember, we're talking about incoming requests, not outgoing requests.

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

You got it. Commercial ISP accounts rarely (if ever) block ports, but residential accounts frequently do.

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

I had my brother call them twice and message them once, all three times there was some kind of error message. I really think god just doesn't want me to play again, because EVERYTHING just goes wrong -_-

Re: Trouble with Port forwarding

After quite a few wild goose chases and dead ends with my ISP we figured out that they already knew about the problem. Someone else in the area has been trying to play FFXI like I am, I just don't know for how long. Who knows when they'll actually fix the problem. I guess this case is solved, it was the ISP's fault. Thanks for helping!
