obtain an IP address will not renew
I have 6 pcs on a windows 2003 server attached to a workgroup switch as well as a dsl router. One day I got IP address conflict with another pc and one of the other users could not get to the network. My ip address was hard coded on the advanced tab, but hers was auto obtain in the tcp/ip settings. Her IP address would not renew, so I hard coded her pc too and it began to work. Now I have two other pc's (probably more) doing the same thing. I coded one and it now gets the internet but not the local network. Any thoughts as to why auto obtain isnt working?
Thanks |

Re: obtain an IP address will not renew
Sometimes it can come to IP conflict when DHCP is in the game, it is very simple actually. You have only 6 pc-s, put static IP-s on all of them, put router address as gateway address and put DNS address, ask you local ISP they should give it to you.
You could also check DHCP settings on your router. And, do you have L2 or L3 switch? And what function Win server 2003 has in your network? |

Re: obtain an IP address will not renew
From johnwill:
Repair duplicate IP address on network issue. Turn off everything on the network, ALL the machines and any other network device like network printers and NAS drives. Turn off the router and modem. Turn on the modem, wait for a steady data light. Turn on the router, wait two minutes. Turn on the network devices and computers, one at a time. This issue is usually caused by resetting a router without resetting all the network connected devices. Another issue that will cause duplicate IP addresses is assigning static IP addresses to devices that conflict with the router's DHCP address range. If you require static IP addressed devices on the network, they should be configured to be in the same subnet but outside the address range defined for the DHCP server.

Re: obtain an IP address will not renew
If you are going to use static IPs, make sure that you set them out of the DHCP scope.
