Failing at static IP address setup!
Ok,
Im trying to setup a static IP adress. i Have a netopia 3347WG router, which in the end, displays a different ip to the one i configure for my cable connection through TCP/IP properties. So basically, my computer recognises my new settings but my router does not?? Can somebody give me a little info on the subject and solution, as simple as it may be

Re: Failing at static IP address setup!
When a static IP is set in Network Connections, the router will see the computer in the DHCP page of the router, although if the static IP is set correctly the computer should still be connected/working through the router. Were you able to correctly setup a static IP?

Re: Failing at static IP address setup!
Open up a command prompt (Start > run > cmd)
Type the following bolded commands and post the results for each affected machine. ipconfig /all Note: To post results of commands, alternate click on the top of the command prompt > edit > select all > alternate click on the top of the command prompt > edit > copy > paste in a message here. If you are on a computer that can't connect to the internet then paste the contents in a text document and save it to a portable media like a flash drive, then use an internet capable machine to post the contents.

Re: Failing at static IP address setup!
hrmmm ok, thanks for the reply.
so if i have set a static (working: hence my current internet connection) IP adress under network connections, then the router should be using the IP and other details that are listed under DHCP server in my routers menu? if that true then i am still confused as the IP displayed under DHCP server is different from the IP displayed under connection details (the "home" page of my router) also: im assuming the goal is to get the IP detailed under the routers connection page to stay the same, and perhaps be the same as the one inputted under network connections? dhcp server? at the moment ips under dhcp/connection/network connections are all different |

Re: Failing at static IP address setup!
Sorry, my wording was not right.
When a static IP is set, the router will not , the computer will not show up in the DHCP list in the router.

Re: Failing at static IP address setup!
OK to setup a static IP you need to know the following.
1. IP of the router 2. DNS IP 3. Subnet 4. DHCP scope (if used) Example with a standard linksys router 1. 192.168.1.1 2. 208.67.222.222 (opendns) 3. 255.255.255.0 4. 192.168.1.100 ~ 150 Now your default gate way should be the router's IP. Subnet mask the same as it is on the router. Your DNS what ever it is supposed to be. And the computer IP address is set on the same subnet but out of the DHCP scope. So in this example an IP address of 192.168.1.38 would work nicely.
