Evil OMG router is starting to drive me crazy!! :upset:

Hello all,

Not sure what information is needed but I have a laptop with windows xp sp2 and a netgear router. My problem is that I can't seem to get my router to work properly so that I can go wireless from my computer. I can connect to my router with my PDA, but when I try to go wireless from my computer I get the error message: "windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network." I get this message even before I disconnect myself from the router, so I don't understand how it can't find the certificate. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the router and still same results, PDA can connect, but computer can't. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Make sure that 802.1x Authentication is disabled in the wireless profile for that connection.

Re: OMG router is starting to drive me crazy!! :upset:

Thank you very much for your help, but now it says "limited or no connectivity" "this problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer." I tried to repair it but then it says that it's unable to "renewing your IP address"

Did you remove ALL the stored network profiles and search for a network and enter the correct encryption key? If that fails, try disabling encryption on the router and see if that allows a connection.

Make sure that your router doesn't have a WI-FI protected setup enable, disabling that feature you wont see this message again.

Have you tried logging into the router to make sure the wireless is on in it?

Re: OMG router is starting to drive me crazy!! :upset:

Ok im going to redo the setup because I can't seem to access the router settings to check the things you guys have suggested I check. I will try now and hopefully have time to come back tonight for another update. My apologies for the delays in my responses but I'm working 12 hrs days and sometimes don't have the energy to fight my router when I get home, but I really do appreciate all the suggestions.

Re: OMG router is starting to drive me crazy!! :upset:

Ok I redid the setup and I am still getting the same error message. I tried to disable the encryption but for some reason it still showed my connection as secure and requiring a passphrase. I tried looking for a WI-FI protection setup and came up with only a wireless router radio. I did notice that when I redid the setup it told me that I had a dynamic IP address. I'm not sure if that's the problem but I tried to change it to static IP address, but then it asks me for a primary DNS which I have no idea wat that is.

Go to start>run. Tye cmd , then in the command prompt ipconfig/all . You can use the DNS that comes up for the preferred DNS, and the alternate can be left blank.

Re: OMG router is starting to drive me crazy!! :upset:

Well I typed up a reply and I dont see it here so im goin to retype it - my apologies if it sounds curt but i just typed a lenghty reply and dont see and am too tired to do anotha 1. I did wat u suggested and it didnt work, i noticed that the information under my router's config were not matching that under ipconfig/all, so I updated the information to match that under ipconfig/all and hit "Test" that gave me a new error message of " to avoid conflict w/ur ISP ur router's IP address has been updated to..." " U must now update the IP addy in ur router's config settings for relevant service, such as port forwarding and IP addy reservation." i did jus that n hit "test" again and got the same error message except with a new IP addy. I then went back and updated that and this time I hit "Apply" and got the same error message except this time i got my original IP addy back. I did nothing and tried to access my router and got the same message of invalid IP addy. my router now doesnt work at all and i suspect that's y after i hit reply and i got the cannot find page error msg and lost my previous reply to this post. i will setup the router later and am sure that i will get the same msg so any more thoughts on the subject will be greatly appreciated. thank you and again sry 4 the shorthand and curtness. ~x(

Re: OMG router is starting to drive me crazy!! :upset:

Setting a private static IP has to start with the router's IP address (first 3 octets) for it to work.

Re: OMG router is starting to drive me crazy!! :upset:

ok you dont have to worry about the connection type, if you have already internet access wired to the router dont mess with those settings, its all about the wireless settings...

on your wireless computer... go to the networks connections on control panel... make a right click on the wireless network connection icon and go to properties, click on the wireless network tab on the top, on this tab you're going to see your network on the bottom under preferred networks, select your network and click on properties, on the next box you're going to see on the top authentication, make sure that you dont have a check mark on IEEE 802.11, if you dont have a check mark put the check mark in and try to connect again.
