My Dialup Connection Slow To Activate After Connecting

Hello,
I'm running a dell dimension 2300 Pentium4, with Windows XP, SP3 with 768MB RAM. Everything works great, except:
At the advice of TSF I removed my CA Internet Security Suite and I am now running: Comodo Firewall, Avira Antivir, Spybot SD, and Spywareblaster Pro which all work great. Ever since doing this....
Problem is after I connect to internet, there's a delay of at least 30-seconds, up to a whole minute or more of waiting until the connection "kicks in" and starts loading.
My other computer has identical configuration and programs, also with dialup, but its connection activates immediately after connecting.
What can I do to make my connection activate without this delay? I realize that a minute or so delay might sound petty, but I'm logging on and off all day for health reasons, often for one quick point of information, so the "wait" is often longer than my "surf".
What can I try doing? What's causing this? Please help?
Thanks, L8start

Re: My Dialup Connection Slow To Activate After Connecting

Well, since you changed the firewall and AV software, I'd start by disabling them one at a time and see where the delay comes in.

Re: My Dialup Connection Slow To Activate After Connecting

Hi johnwill,
Thank you for your prompt response/advice. Okay, I tried disabling each of all four security programs, Firewall, Antivirus, Antispywares #1,& #2, and my connection still takes about 30 seconds to a minute to become active.
Is there another set of possibilities to explore?
Thanks, L8start

Try booting in Safe Mode with Networking, see if it's faster that way.

In dialing properties, try turning off "login to network", see if that changes things.

Re: My Dialup Connection Slow To Activate After Connecting

The "Safe Mode with Networking" has no connecting capability. No dial-up prompt appears as in regular mode, and my ISP shortcut does nothing during safe mode. I definitely chose "...with Networking" when using safe mode.
Your other option: "Dialing Properties", turn off login to network.... I do not see anything called "dialing properties" anywhere, but under my ISP connection properties tab there is nothing called "login to network" option, so I don't know what you mean or where you're referring to.
Could you please be specific with this point?
Thanks

Re: My Dialup Connection Slow To Activate After Connecting

Never mind, I think I'm back in W98 days. I don't have any dial machines to look at...
