Hello all,
I recently upgraded to verizon FIOS and got a new actiontec router model: M424-WR Rev. D. WIndows firewall was disabled when I did this. I will walk you through the port forwarding process with pictures: This just shows that the IPv4 address I am using is mine, I did nothing more than check it ![]() ![]() ![]() so can someone help me figure out what I did wrong? I am trying to open up a port to no avail.. thanks in advance ![]() if you need any additional info, please let me know. -Samson

Re: Forwarding ports, but ports are not show as open?
do you have something listing on that port? Opening is fine .. but if you have no program running that is listing it will be as if its closed.
What program are you fowarding the port for? |

Re: Forwarding ports, but ports are not show as open?
bilbus is right on the money here though you should run a netstat -an on your local system to see if these ports are even open as well.
I'm curious to see that you have VNC open and on the default ports even? Do you access your system remotely from the public internet? You should look at changing your VNC ports to something other than the default as these are regularly scanned. Try and choose something random and up in the high 20's, 30's, or even 40 thousands since most people scanning don't can all 65000 ports on an IP. You might also look to implement some level of scan detection at either your gateway or on the local system itself which can detect scan attempts and drop them.
