Network Key or passphrase?

just purchased first laptop.to get internet it says i must have Network Key or passphrase.got computer for girlfriend and we dont know squat about setting them up.laptop is Compaq Notebook PC and router is netgear wireless.Any help would be appreciated.I have read some other posts on this site and it sounds like your all pro'sso any body responding to this post will have to dimb it down for me so I can follow.thanks Jship

The network key is established by the router, so you'll have to access the router's configuration pages to change the key or other configuration options.

Care to share the exact make and modem of the router?
