Wireless Security Issue

Hey all...I am new to the forum and need some help.

I just set up a network and I am trying to figure out what the effects are (if any) on transmit speed when WEP and WPA are set up.

Problem: After setting up the network, the wireless connection goes down whenever I try switching into WEP or WPA.

I am using a Cisco 1811 router and WinXP OS. Are there any configs I need to make to the router itself, because I have left that alone and am just setting up the security protocol from the windows interface on the wi-fi connected computer.

The router is where you configure the level of encryption, not the workstation. The reason you loose connectivity is that the router is still running unencrypted.
