Re: Mac/Ip adress

The ISP determines that IP address, you can't change it.

Why do you feel the need to change your IP address?

Re: Mac/Ip adress

mac addresses are not seen on the internet, so changing it will do nothing.

like john said .. your isp controls your ip address, ask them for a static ip if they say yes, then they will give you one to put in.

Re: Mac/Ip adress

some isp's will only assign you an ip address if they have your MAC registered with them.

Re: Mac/Ip adress

Typically, for cable modems, the MAC address they use is the MAC address of the DOCSIS modem. Very few companies key on the machine's MAC address nowadays.

Re: Mac/Ip adress

That is correct, its no longer a safe way to control access ... cable modem mac addesses are not cloneable so they use trhose now.
