Help With viewing IP camera From Internet
Hello everyone. I've received alot of help from techsupportforums.com but this is my first post. I'm not 100% sure if this is the area I should post, but anyway...
At my work we purchased an IP Camera (ACTi 1135) to watch over the boiler. Internally it works great just punch in the ip address in I.E. and bam we're in business. Our problem is we're not able to view the camera outside of our network. We have all of the ports forwarded appropriately according to the instructions. We think the issue is we also host our own website. So when we point to the public address it just shows our webpage. Even if we manually input a port number in the address. For example xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:6000. We've been beating our heads against a wall trying to figure this out. Our router/firewall is a clarkconnect box. We're also running windows server 2003. Any help would be AWESOME!

Re: Help With viewing IP camera From Internet
One possible issue could be that alot of routers allow you to set up, what some people call a DMZ behind a NATed firewall. Depending on the routers config, all packets that hit your public IP address are NATed to a SINGLE internal IP address, regardless of the port number. Some routers allow you to map your public IP address to MULTIPLE internal IP addresses, based on port number. You may want to make sure that the Clarkconnect box is actually doing the public address-port translation to a specific internal IP address-port (IP camera).
Also if you verify that the IP translation is correct, check the firewall, if enabled, and make sure that the IP or port is not being filtered. If all seems OK I would check and make sure the IP camera has a default gateway assigned, and it is pointing to the router. Last edited by blackbox_ns; 02-04-2009 at 08:09 AM. |

Re: Help With viewing IP camera From Internet
Thanks for the reply Blackbox_ns. We actually got it working. We finally got a hold of techsupport for the camera and they told us to open up another port number which strangely enough isn't listed anywere in the manual or online. Once the port was opened we were in business!
