WRT54G wifii & VPN

I have a Time Warner account using a Motorolla SB5101 SURFboard modem & want to add a Linksys WRT54 G router. I updated the firmware, put in WAP2 and restricted wireless connection by MAC address. I get a good signal throughout the house. My main computer running Vista SP1 works great. My work computer running on WIN XP SP2 has issues. I connect to a VPN using VPN CLient 5.0.02.0090 by CISCO and get to the program I use (MAGIC CS) via remote access portal using CitrixWeb1 access platform. If the I am hooked up to the router on the work computer my internet slows to a crawl and I keep getting booted off the VPN. If I connect the work computer directly to the cable modem I have no such issue.

I have talked to cable tech support & as far as they are concerned my router is my own problem. All they care about is whether their modem works.

According to the IS staff at the hospital I work for I should not be having any problems.

Is this a "port" issue? Is there something I have to add?

I just can't figure out what is wrong. Do I need to add the VPN tunneling details to the router?

I have no real formal computer trainning but can do most things without a problem, but apparently not this. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: WRT54G wifii & VPN

Some things you can try here.
  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
  5. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
