router settings?
ok im trying to set up a wireless router at my friends house and i cant seem to figure out the settings.
her older brother set things up on there modem a little weird i suspect but im not sure it is an advantek router and when plugged it i can connect to the router but cannot surf the net but the computer which is directly connected to the router does work online. i used the computer that is pluged in and did a ipconfig /all to get the domain and gateway etc. but that doesnt seem to be what i need or i did something wrong the computer is assign an ip in the 76.xxx.xxx.xxx range while the router was assinging in the 192.x.x.x.x range so i changed it to assign in the range the computer was working on and still nothing. |

Re: router settings?
Sounds like you have the modem plugged into a LAN/Network port on the router, not the proper WAN/Internet port.

Re: router settings?
there isnt a lan/wan port they have Lan1 and Lan2 but i know it works in either place as ive done it at my house but cant seem to figure it out heres the ipconfig minus a few numbers/letters as i know this can be sinsitive info.
do you see anything that would need to be specificaly changed in the router settings. Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Re: router settings?
In my router, if you go to "advanced settings", and "network filter", you can turn the mac adress filter on and only allow computers with the mac address listed on that list to be connected to the internet or LAN. If I try to connect with a mac that is not listed I get a connection but I cant surf or use the local network resources.

Re: router settings?
Mystery solved, this is an Access Point, not a router. It has no NAT, so only one computer can connect at a time. See the attached picture, you're missing the router in the picture.

Re: router settings?
If you have a one port router, you just need to put a plain Ethernet switch on that port to split it out to multiple ports. You can only connect ONE device to that AP the way it's wired, it only gets a single connection to the modem.

Re: router settings?
You need a broadband router to connect multiple computers to a plain broadband modem ISP connection.

Re: router settings?
Yep, and connect your WAP to one of the ports for the wireless connectivity.
