setting up VLANs - HHHEEEELLLPPP!
Hi all,
I have a Cisco 1841 router. It has a link to the Telstra Managed IPMAN/WAN and a link to the internal network at the office. The IPMAN/WAN then goes out to another Cisco router 2821 which is at a co-location site. We recently had a switch die and our entire office went offline (yes, we had no redundancy). I have now purchased and installed 2 Cisco Switchs. But the configuration still relies upen one switch (point of failure) I am wanting to directly connect each switch direct to a available port on the Cisco 1841 router, but i am guessing i need to use VLANs. I can get a VLAN started, it can connect over the office, but cannot go past the Cisco 1841 router out to the IPMAN/WAN. Anyone got an ideas? In the config options there is an option to make the new VLAN in the passive interface.. is this what i need? Melissa. |

Re: setting up VLANs - HHHEEEELLLPPP!
Ok lets take this down to the basics, every VLAN is in a differant subnet and as such need a layer 3 device (router/layer 3 switch) to communicate. If both switches are connecting LAN hosts all in one office and all hosts are on the same subnet why do you need to use VLANS? Or is this a massive office with 254+ hosts
Please can you make a simple network diagram with the current setup and your proposed setup that you want. |
