[SOLVED] Camstreams problem with Microsoft XP
Maybe someone can help me. I'm trying to set up a webcam with an older computer running XP Professional. I have a dial-up modem getting 26K (please don't faint, I'm rural, VERY rural) I want to set up a webcam on this older desktop and watch it on my laptop when I'm away from home. I cannot get the Encoder program to connect. I've turned off the Windows firewall, and I know the camera is working fine. I tried to follow the port forwarding tutorial, but when it came to setting the IP address, my server will not allow it. I spoke to them this afternoon. Is there something I'm missing? Are there other webcam servers that are better than Camstreams that I should try? Is it just not possible to have a live cam with a slow dial-up internet connection.
Thank you in advance, Gina |

Re: Camstreams problem with Microsoft XP
Dream on! 26kbits is not nearly enough bandwidth for what you're considering.

Re: Camstreams problem with Microsoft XP
Just to let others know who are suffering in silence with me, using a slow dial-up connection. It's possible to do a webcam!! SLOW, but possible... It turns out the port was blocked... The answer came from another forum, but just thought I'd let anyone know that I had success in case you were thinking about trying it.... It's up and running.. Yee Haw! Gina

I'm amazed, but glad you got it going.
