router and access point
Hi Folks,
i am trying to send broadband from one house to another and i have a problem i can't get my head around so if anybody would have some advice i would appreciate it. this is my infrastructure: (house1) adsl line--->netopia2247 modem/router---via ethernet-->osbridge 24xlgi(i want this to be a wireless access point) ---- via wireless over 400m with line of sight---> (house2)osbridge 24xlgi (i want this to be the client)----via ethernet cable----> pc/ps3 (i dont mind changing the ethernet cable over untill i'll get another router). my ip is assigned dynamically by my provider. the netopia has the dhcp server enabled. the osbridge units can be configured as access points and communicate to each other wirelessly. i've not been successful so far in assigning the correct ip's/gateway and so on. i know the osbridge units have 2 sets of ip's: one for the wired part and another for the wireless part and that's confusing when it comes to assigning the correct ip's considering the netopia's ip and gateway... ...it's like a shot in the dark for me as my knowledge is fairly limited when it comes to networking...So if anybody can offer some support i would appreciate it.thank you, |

You would need a "wireless ethernet converter" in house 2... You could do it by using the router in house 1 as an access point, but the individual devices need to have on-board wireless (like laptops) unless you have a "wireless ethernet converter"
>>> Be sure to use encryption!

Re: router and access point
In House1, the OSBRiDGE 24XLGi's WLAN Operational Mode should be at PtP Bridge Master and House2's to PtP Bridge Slave. Set the IP Operational Mode for both to Bridge.
In House2, under IP Settings (once bridging has been set), enter in an appropriate private IP address for this bridge (eg. If your network uses 192.168.1.x and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, set it to something like 192.168.1.253, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0) and set the Default Gateway to the netopia router's IP (usually the Default Gateway of PCs in House1, eg: 192.168.1.1). To have the bridge in House2 find House1's WAP, in House2's bridge to Status -> Services -> and click Site Survey. OSBRiDGE's manual is anything but "friendly" or intuitive, but for more information take a look at their manual for the 24XLGi here. |
