A Complicated router and port forwarding problem

i have a bsnl (upto mbps)connection and a netgear modem (model DM111P) and as it tourns out it is not a router and even after port forwarding it was not giving me speed like 30-40kbps.

so i want to use my old modem (smartax mt882) but when i connected it it said you have no or limited connection and when i tried to open the add 192.168.1.1 to confuigure it, it didnt open now if i could get some help as to how can i open it i'd be glad to know it

and another thing for some reason i wold like to be able to use both the modems(not at the same time obviously) is it possible.
PLEASE HELP

Re: A Complicated router and port forwarding problem

try a factory reset , push the Reset Button on the back panel , Push it three times continuously to take the factory default setting, If memory serves me correctly, that Modem has a USB and a RJ45 port, if connected per USB the ip you need is 192.168.1.2 , 192.168.1.1 is rj45

Re: A Complicated router and port forwarding problem

On many DSL accounts, you have to configure the name/password for the DSL account into any router, did you do that? Is it a requirement for your service?
