Exclamation Mpls

MPLS combines the benefits of connectionless Layer 3 routing and forwarding with connection-oriented Layer 2 forwarding? Pls elaborate this line particularly connectionless L3 and connection-oriented L2 terminology here.

thnx

Re: Mpls

If I'm not mistaken what is being told to you here is that MPLS can leverage both Layer 2 and Layer 3 topologies. You can use either. It's what makes MPLS so very diverse and why it's a major player (at least in the US) when it comes tying together many different offices. Just keep in mind that you cannot (at least yet) use MPLS across multliple providers at the same time. It's all one carrier or nothing!

Re: Mpls

Based on your wording/English it looks like you're asking WHY both are supported? This is a very basic question that shouldn't even require a post? You could easily google this!

I actually answered your second question in my 1st reply. I suspect there's a language barrier with you and the English language.

READ what I wrote:

This is the logical answer to your question about WHY. There are technical reasons as well, but seirously ... you'd be far better off getting that from a book than asking it as a one-off question in here.

You might be so inclined to also ask WHY others such as FRAME struggle in this area.
