Help! I'm desperate :(
Okay, so last summer my Dell laptop needed a new video card and after three weeks of battling with them, I finally got it taken in. My wireless worked perfectly before it shipped out, then when I got it back, suddenly my wireless didn't work anymore. I tried calling them, but they said that it was a router issue, not theirs. So then I tried talking to an agent online for Linksys.
We tried checking the router settings on my mom's PC and then matching it up with mine. We eventually did, but it still didn't work. The settings kept changing...like when I would try to change the security mode to WPA and the algorithms to AES, it wouldn't connect and the security mode would always change to Open. Not only that, but I would have to keep re-starting my WZC (Wireless Zero Configuration) even after I applied it to automatically start, but even then it wouldn't connect. I don't know what else to do. I have no idea if it's the wireless card thats the problem...Dell couldn't help themselves find their way out of a paper bag, let alone help me and the people at Linksys couldn't do anything either. My wireless works everywhere else (friend's houses, internet cafes, hotels, etc) but it won't work at my house, even though it'll work for everyone else in my family. ![]() I'm frustrated. I've had no wireless on my laptop since last summer and with school starting again I can't afford to have my family constantly coming in and out of our main office and distracting me, plus its just downright annoying. If any of you guys could help me and let me know what you think I would GREATLY appreciate it. If there is any information you need I can let you know. I just really need some ideas...I'm lost. Thanks for taking the time to read all this. :) |

Re: Help! I'm desperate :(
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally? On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
