SNB6500 router problems nothing works
Hi, I'm a girl from Denmark who needs your help.
I have this problem. For 3 years ago, I got a laptop and a router to wireless internet. Since then, I've tried almost everything, but I just can't install the Router correctly. It needs a MAC number, but I don't know what that is. I called around, but no one could or would help me. My last change to get this to work, is asking you guys. As I said I'm from Denmark, so therefor please do a lot to descripe what I should do. My parents got an normal computer - not a laptop, and it is there, I'm trying to install the router, so that my laptop would connect. I've looked around on this site, and saw this: http://kortlink.dk/techsupportforum/4yq9 (I've just shorten the adress) Johnwill wrote: Reset the router to factory defaults. Turn everything off, router, modem, computer. Turn on the broadband modem, wait for it to connect. Turn on the router, give it a couple of minutes to initialize. Boot the machine. If it's still not connected, do this: For 98 or ME, Start, Run, COMMAND to open a DOS window: --- or --- For 2K or XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. I've tried it, but when the DOS window opens, it's all written in danish, which I don't think you can read. And what is to Boot the machine? Yes I know it. My english sucks and I'm an amateur in the computer world. But anyway, would you just try to help me? Thanx //Ida |

Re: SNB6500 router problems nothing works
No problem. Forgive me, but I do not speak Danish, so I will try to be descriptive as you requested.
"Boot the machine" basically means "turn it on". In this case, John was instructing you to turn your computer back on. "Boot" is an English computer term which basically means "turn on" (comes from the term, "lifting from one's bootstraps", and no I have no idea who came up with that). Even though what is said in the DOS window is in Danish, please give it to us anyways. Leave it to us to attempt translation as to what is said - the numbers and things which should come out and the order of which they come out will most likely be the same "shape" and "form" as the English command, and we can always use something like an on-line dictionary or Babel Fish to translate into English. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and the language barrier. We will try our best to make this as smooth and painless as possible. The Techsupportforum staff is multinational, many come from different countries, and if we have difficulty understanding, we'll try asking them to help clarify anything. If necessary, we may have to ask you to describe what is being said if we're having trouble. |
