need help please

Ok, a major blond here trying to help a friend with his pc's...yes 2 pc's.
the guy that was working on them left him in a mess to say the least.
will list what i have seen on his pc's and if any one can help, please please help.

he has a cable internet. and trying to connect them both to the internet. and share files from both pc's. (access from either pc to the other one)
by way of a router. he has a network magic set up on both pc's surposely help on this. which i don't think its working, due to they software is trying to get him to buy the program. can i delete it that program?

how do i reset up where it can work?
(since i personally use dial up, kinda new to the cable thing)

secondly, either pc will not burn a cd. both are surpostly be cd and dvd burner writters. they used to work.... i done it my self before with them both. so has my friend. i have gone into hardware part and seen if there was checked for recording alowed to those drives, and they have been checked. but the guy that used to work on the pc's have spiled up the memord/hard drives up to speperete drive, some are used for memory for games that have been loaded. since i personally am not a gamer myself. more of a chatter really.

ok, like i said i am new, and blond to boot here. still so green around the ears......lol i will love any help i can get and please go into detail please. thanks.

Re: need help please

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: need help please

1) there is only 2 pc's on this one network as they are both on a router both pc's have the same problem when it comes to the network. and the

"Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router"

i will have to find out tomorrow when i go try a few other things, like restore to a earlier point. which i haven't tryed yet.
