login/password

Hello I am new to this site and I am in need of help. When I try to log on I type in my user name and password I get an error message that says I should check that my user name and domain are correct and then retype my password.I was told I could get in two ways type Administrator and then password or my normal user name and passwotd. I have not changed anything but it will not let me in using any combination. I have a copy of the windows 2000 pro disk but when I put it in it does not do anything. Please help I have tried everything I know

Re: login/password

Firstly check that the domain is infact correct.
If that is fine, then make sure that all network connections are fine, lead into the rear of the computer, any switches you have or any other network device.
(if other computers on the same switch can log on, its a PC issue, if they all cant log on, look at the switch and consider a reset.)

If Network connections dont fix it, log onto the computer locally and reset the computers IP by going to:

Start > Run type cmd and then ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew to renew the IP.

See if this gets a network connection.

If it doesnt get a network connection, rename the computer on the network by right clicking on My Computer and then finding Network ID and follow the steps to rename it. Move the computer into the correct part of active directory and try the logon again.

Re: login/password

Thank You for the response. I am not very computer save I am unsure what the domain is or even how to check it. I can't get pased the login screen. I have typed in my user names and pass wordsbut it still will not let log me on. I have nothing on my screeen but the login section. I don't mean to souind dumb but I am still learning how to operate this system.
The last time I logged on everything was fine but this time it will not let me go passed the login screen. I have no other computers or switches pluged into or on the laptop. My laptop is a compaq presario 1230. It has not been on line in about 1 month could I have picked up a virus that is preventing me from logging on.
I am at a loss to explain what happened out It guy at work said something about having to reload the entire program but the disk I have doen't work when I put it in the cd rom. I am hoping this extra info will help in getting me back on line and to understand how to run my system. Thank You for any additional help that you night be able to give.

Re: login/password

Is the computer part of a network of a company??

Can you even log onto the computer locally by selecting This Computer and entering the password.

Re: login/password

The laptop is not part of a company system. Iam an indivdual with a laptop that is trying to get logged back on my laptop. I have not had any trouble until now. Everything was fine until I tried to get back on the laptop, a few days ago. I have tried everything I can to log back on but nothing I know will work. As I said I can't get pass the login screen.
Do I need to overwrite the program? I am running a linux o.s. as my main computer, and my laptop has the windows2000proNT. If I need to redo the program how do I get a disk that will work as the one I have will not read when I put it in the cd slot

Re: login/password

I am sorry but we can not assist you in attempting to log into the system as we can not determine if it is for legitimate and/or legal purposes, as stated within our Rules:

ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES

Users may not post hacks, cracks, or give instruction how to pirate any type of software, or anything similar, in any forum of TSF. We do not condone, support or give instruction on any illegal activity pertaining to computer systems, computer hardware, computer software programs or computer related activities. Included in this group of activities are requests for help to circumvent system admin passwords or Administrator settings on networks. We do understand that the majority of requests may be legitimate, but we do not have the means to discern these from non-legitimate requests.

I will be closing this thread.
