NAT through multiple router(s)

hi there,

I had been using tightVNC at my work. Now I come to a new environment, then puzzled me.

As a client side, I need to re-configure router(s).

The new situation is as follows.
Internet Access via ADSL modem Zyxel => LAN 1 via Netgear router => ICS via Windows 2000SP4 machine => my pc (fix local ip).

I set up NAT port forwarding as follows, and had to stop because I have no idea further...

Setting in Zyxel
NAT Virtual Server
192.168.2.1:5500 (LAN IP of Netgear)

Setting in Netgear
NAT Virtual Server
192.168.0.1:5500 (LAN IP of win2ksp4)

any advice?
TIA,
inu

Re: NAT through multiple router(s)

I'd put the secondary router in the DMZ of the primary router, that will eliminate the issue of having to try to port forward through two NAT layers. That's how I run my Verizon MI424WR that came with my FiOS.

Re: NAT through multiple router(s)

Thanks for your response. OK. DMZ is indeed a simple method to through Netgear. Then how about ICS on Windows2000.
Can I just add TCP & UDP protocol service w/ port 5500 to be assigned to my pc's LAN IP?
cheers,
inu

Re: NAT through multiple router(s)

ICS? What do you need ICS for if you have a router?

Re: NAT through multiple router(s)

GAD! I'd go for a wireless bridge and lose ICS, which would also lose the multiple NAT layers.

Re: NAT through multiple router(s)

I second johnwill...ditch ICS....Wireless + ICS = *crap*

The wireless bridge is your best solution if you can't pull a drop to your switch from the netgear.

Re: NAT through multiple router(s)

A wire would be my first choice, but I assumed that wireless was desired.
