Can't acces website with laptop

I have had this problem for almost 3 weeks and i can't get a straight answer.

Out of the blue I started having issues accessing certain websites.

I share a D Link router with my wife who has perfect access. However i get regularily: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

I find that if i connect straight up to the modem i get the odd error message but a simple refresh 3 - 10 times will eventually get the page up.

However with the router connected my wife is accessing websites perfectly on her laptop, but even with the refresh,I am having no luck. I can access gmail, BBC, on the odd day but if i start clicking links, i end up having to restart.

In other words my computer is the problem, something unconfigured itself, and i could really do with some help.

I don't really know much about routers and networking so if you can help, please bare that in mind.

Thank you.

Re: Can't acces website with laptop

O.k here goes:

Broadband Modem: D Link DSL-500B
Router: D Link DI-624M
Connection type - wireless, although i,m link directly to the modem right now as the router was impossible. (however, even with a direct line into the modem its being balddy temperamental)
Encryption: It says (WPA) here next to the keyboard in small print - excuse my ignorance - QUOTE: "...provide robust Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security for..."
Computer make: Acer Aspire 1362WLMi
I'm on XP - i gather the Home version.

Re: Can't acces website with laptop

This seems to be leaning to a bad NIC, bad cable, or driver issues. I didn't see anything that looked like it could cause this issue in the HJT log.

Have you tried a new cable and a new port on the router? If so, the next stop may be to reload the NIC drivers, and finally a replacement NIC.

Re: Can't acces website with laptop

Thanks for all the help!

Right now i,m directly connected to my modem, having given up
completely on the router. I am still having to refresh 3-10 times
to get a site up...

My wife computer (new) is perfect - no problems.
I had the internet company round - they say there
is nothing wrong with the connection
I had the tech guy who sold us the router round -
same deal- router is perfect...

I will try a few more things and then if nothing works
i'll get great pleasure in throwing this piece of out the
14th floor window... i'll let you know if that sorts things out.

Cheers

Re: Can't acces website with laptop

Before the window toss, I'd buy it a new Ethernet NIC, it's a cheap investment.
