Portforwarding. Question
Greetings,
I hope this is the proper forum to be asking. If not, I apologize and will gladly post in the appropriate forum. Anyway, my question is in regards to port forwarding. Basically, I play a game online and in order to play, one player most host so the other player can directly connect with them. However, I'm unable to host, and finding people to host is a problem. So, if I forward a port, my issue should be resolved, correct? My main question is, however, whether or not this is safe/recommended. I don't know the implications this will hold. but I'm really more worried about not being able to sign onto the internet. I have a dynamic IP, currently, and obviously two computers sharing the same IP cannot log on to the internet. So, if I change to a static IP, what are the odds that this will prevent me from being able to connect to the net. I mean, can someone's dynamic IP match my static one? I know that I can just write down my current IP settings and change them later of it ends up not working well, but I just want to know what you guys think about doing this. Is it a good or a bad idea? What are the negative/positive aspects of having a static IP? Thanks, Lance |
