Idea [SOLVED] IP Change Notifications on a Dynamic IP WAN

I have a WAN IP that is dynamic. It changes every couple of days. I need to know if there is some sort of program that I can run on my computer that will email me if there is a WAN IP change. Changing to a static IP is not an option.

This way I can access my remote desktop or whatever other servers I run without calling my fiancee to find out my IP of the day. Open source software would be nice.

How about a more elegant way? DynDNS will continually track the IP address at your computer and update a constant URL that you can use anywhere on the Internet to connect to the machine.

Yes, but that service is $99 a year. I do indeed appreciate the suggestion, but I need something more frugal.

Re: IP Change Notifications on a Dynamic IP WAN

The service I pointed you to is free, I've used it for years.

Quote:
The free Dynamic DNS service allows you to alias a dynamic IP address to a static hostname in any of the many domains we offer, allowing your computer to be more easily accessed from various locations on the Internet. We provide this service, for up to five (5) hostnames, free to the Internet community.

Re: IP Change Notifications on a Dynamic IP WAN

Ok. I stand corrected. I must not fully understand how to use DynDNS then. Could you tell me what to do to set it up?

EDIT: NVM. I found the updater program. Thanks for all your help.
