Cannot connect to internet now that I removed router
Hello,
I hope I am posting this in the right forum. I had my computer hooked up to a linksys router (for VOIP) and cable modem. My VOIP provider went out of business so I no longer need the router. However, when I go to connect my computer directly to my cable modem, I keep getting an error "network cable is unplugged/acquiring network address. I called my ISP and we went through all my setting for TCP/IP and even tried typing in a static IP address to use but nothing works. Tried the ipconfig /release and /renew, the /dns flush but they were stumped. I am currently online via my sisters laptop hooked up directly to my cable modem so I know it's not the modem. I'm stumped as to why I can connect to the internet with the router hooked up but not without? Is there some IP address the router has that got installed somewhere on my computer that I cannot see or get to? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks! |

Re: Cannot connect to internet now that I removed router
When you connect a new device to the cable modem with a new MAC address, you MUST turn off power to reset the saved MAC address in the modem.
