dyndns probelms plz help! dyndns probelms plz help!

Hello

I use to fun a little ftp server with a dyndns account. I never had a probelm with it, very easy to set up. I then stopped using my server for about a year. This last week I went to get it up and running and for some reason I could not get the dyndns to work. I upadted my account with dyndns. The only new item to my set up was a new router from verizon (D-link 624) from when we upgraded to verizon fios. The router has a DDNS set up built in same with my last router. I plugged in my account information and host name into the router. I enabled remote login on the router. I unbocketed ports 80 8080 8000 8888 i even went as far as DMZ my server and unblocked a few ports in windows firewall ports 80 8888 8080... And my dyndns hostname would not work. I could not login into my router with my DNS address on the network and people from outside the network couldnt login with that address but they could with my ip address

I Even installed my old router the one that worked before and i sitll could not get it to work

PLZPLZ i can not figure this out

ANY FEEDBACK would help me out

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

jamie

I've had two different routers with the DynDNS updater, and neither of them worked properly. I recommend you just run the client on a computer that's connected and usually on. Works just as well, and has worked for years for me. :)

That is rather awkward - I have DynDNS and the updater set up on client computers and it has been working smooth as glass for several months without any hassle.

With port forwarding set up, can you remotely administer your server using the DNS address? I want to be clear on this - are you unable to remotely login to the router or the server using the DNS address. This is possibly because the router may only accept remote login through IP and not via DNS, that the DNS is only used for the purposes of the internal network. I'm not positive, however a quick test in remotely administering your server (after port forwarding has been set) using the DNS address might confirm this. Home/SOHO routers can be hinky that way.

BTW, did you login to DynDNS to see if your account is still active. If you are inactive for 30 days, they remote the account.
