[SOLVED] IRC Problems
I have been having difficulty connecting to my usual IRC network lately. I think the problem may be with my router but I'm not sure, I use a Linksys WRT54G. I have tried connecting to several servers on this network, but I will always get this error:
[20:23] * Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out) and after 10 failed connection retries I get this message [20:26] * Unable to connect to server (Connection refused) Some servers that I also know exist (some on different networks) return "server cannot be resolved" messages as well. I have tried as many different combinations of ports as I can think of, upgraded my router firmware and reset my modem and router, I'm completely stumped.

Re: IRC Problems
which server are you trying to connect to?
I know there's a DoS for a certain model/firmware of Linksys, but I only saw proof of concept of this when I was lurking in the 2600 IRC.

Re: IRC Problems
I'm trying to connect to lcirc, official page at http://www.lcirc.net
There are 2 servers on the network, putsch.lcirc.net and rifk.lcirc.net I'm trying to connect to putsch and get these messages, but rifk returns a "Server could not be resolved" It could be considered a controversial network, often the content discussed there is of such a nature, but I don't know if my ISP could block it if they felt that it was too controversial. Doubt that is the case though, I tried connecting through a proxy and it still didn't work. |

Re: IRC Problems
Mine resolves, but doesn't actually connect.
I would try a traceroute to see where it gets cut off.

Re: IRC Problems
That just means that 204.191.192.1 is dropping the ball and not passing the packet on.

Re: IRC Problems
204.191.192.1 is replying to pings though, it also works in other traceroutes (ex. google.com), does this mean that it could be set to block certain connections? (it appears as the 2nd hop, after my router)

Re: IRC Problems
If it's getting blocked, then yes- the last IP in the traceroute will be the machine that is blocking the connection.
It could be something innocuous though- as I mentioned, I never got it to connect either, but it is replying to my pings.
