Re-routing of outbound emails only to specific domains
I have a client who has a point to point T1 connection to one of their vendors that is strictly monitored.
This vendor has requested that emails coming to them not be routed over the internet, but to be routed through the secure tunnel. My client is running Exchange 2003. Would it be safe to assume that the configuration to reroute this traffic need only be applied in the routers, layer 3 switches, and firewalls? Or is there a setting in Exchange that needs to be changed? This is how traffic is currently being routed to the vendor: Client machines default gateway is a 3com Layer 3 switch. Static routes are set up on the Layer 3 switch to forward traffic (only those going to specific IP Addresses that belong to the vendor) to a Cisco router. The Cisco router hosts the Point to Point connection. Static routes are then applied to forward the traffic to the vendor's router on the other side of the Point to Point. If it is just setting up routes on the routers and switches, how is it done so that only SMTP traffic to those ip addresses are routed in that manner? (And of course I am assuming the vendor has opened ports and created routes on their end). Thanks in advance for any input! |
