Wireless Internet Sharing

Hi,

I am trying to share my internet connection from my PC to my Laptop. I recieve my PC connection via a Wireless Adapter. My Laptop also has a Wireless adapter but runs hellishly slower than the PC wirless. So i have connected the two computers using an Ethernet cable. And I am trying to share the wireless connection, when i do this i get a error message telling me one of the LAN devices IP address is set up to be the same as the Wireless Adapter. I have changed both LAN IP's so that they are not the same as the Wireless Adapter and I still recieve the error message.

Please help me as this problem is making me go grey bald and slightly depressed =)

Thanks

Marc

My System

From your PC
Go start
run
type "cmd" without ""
type at prompt ipconfig /all

do the same from the laptop.

pop the results here for us to check.

Remember that the cable you use for PC-PC connection is not the same as PC
to Router connection and requires a "cross-over" type.

Normally, you would check what the IP address is for the wireless router,
make a note of it
Check the address of the PC which is or appears to be working.

On the laptop, look at the properties of the NIC from the icon on the systray.
go advanced
set the ip address to one that has not been taken from the others (with susbset 255.255.255.0 this usually happens automatically)
set gateway to either the router IP address ( preferred) or the PC if you can't find the router IP address.
set DNS server to the Router address, or the PC if as above , you can't find the address.
Router address, frequenrly 192.168.001.001 but check!
If not allocated PC would go to 192.168.001.002
and the laptop would take 192.168.001.003. when you are setting up manually.
Make sure that workgroup address is EXACTLY the same if you want to share files.

My System

if you type ipconfig /all at the Command prompt you will get the results onn your monitor

if you type ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt you will find a text file of the results in your Documents & settings folder (or whatever folder opens when you arrive at the Command prompt). The ">" redirects the results away from the monitor and to the filename you give.
