I just got an ethernet bridge for the free internet in my apartment, but I can't connect. I don't have to have a "live" phone line, do I?

With the total lack of information provided, we really have no idea what you have. Can you connect to the free Internet service at all? If not, why not ask the apartment management. What is the "Ethernet bridge" you speak of?
