Lost IP Address
Hello,
I posted this as a reply to the other guy with the same problem, but, of course it may not be found. Anyway, I couldn't seem to apply any of his help to my same question. Well, things were going along just fine with my new Sony Vaio laptop, and my Belkin N1 wireless router, which I got just a few days ago. Then, last night, it can no longer acquire the address. Here is the patch from my ipconfig, as you asked the other person to provide: C:\Documents and Settings\Elizabeth>ipconfig/all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : 480037D956F7448 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : Belkin Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Networ k Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-18-DE-09-57-19 Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connecti on Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-13-A9-47-7E-45 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.2 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 68.11.16.30 68.11.16.25 68.1.208.25 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Wednesday, October 04, 2006 6:29:50 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Friday, October 02, 2015 6:29:50 PM Hope you can figure out what happened and what I should do, because I sure can't! Thanks, Elizabeth |

Actually, this appears to be a perfectly normal IPCONFIG with a valid connection.

I've never spent so much time on a computer, ever...
Thought I'd let you know the possible causes and outcome. First, I noticed that I kept losing my connection when I was talking on a cordless phone. Then, a marathon talk/search session created the problem with the lost ip address.
Forward one night, and I can't even get it to say that anymore. Called Belkin; did all kinds of resets, to no avail. Told that cordless phones can definitely cause terrible problems. Called Sony Vaio Support - after 1-1/2 hours!!! of messing around with the virus protection, spyware protection, ipconfig recheck, and on and on, Sony guy tells me to box it up and get a replacement, since it was less than one week old. I will be throwing out those cordless phones, I'll tell you! Thanks for your help, Elizabeth |

I have a 900mhz and a 5.8ghz phone, both are sitting about 3 feet from the router. I periodically use both and the wireless, never an issue. :)
