HI guys
I just started my program for CCNA certification and I found myself completely lost with the subnetting part. One of my major "concerns" are like this. When I subnet 131.102.2.1/19 the first valid IP range I get is 131.102.32.1-131.102.63.254. I am curious to know what happened to the range 131.102.2.1-131.102.31.254. Where does this IP range has gone? Is it possible that I can use this IP range at a practical scenario? Thanks in advance for your answers regards

IP subnets
I hate to confuse you more, but actually with a /(slash)19 or 255.255.224.0
You actually end up with: 8 Subnets and 8190 Hosts 131.102.0.0 131.102.32.0 131.102.64.0 131.102.96.0 131.102.128.0 131.102.160.0 131.102.192.0 131.102.224.0 The Broadcasts are the ip just before the NEXT subnet (eg 131.102.31.255) Make sense?

This is one of the best resources for subnetting. I recently saw an article on the Internet the other day and it was about subnetting. This guy wrote this really cool diagram that explained it all. It was pretty cool, but I forgot to bookmark it.

www.learntosubnet.com is probably the best starting point. Subnetting is probably the hardest thing to learn for most people. The key is to get a SOLID understanding of binary math. If you to the binary on the subnets I gave you, you will see your subnets/hosts. I will be glad to explain it in more detail later. Sitting at KC airport right now.

use solar winds free advanced subnet calculator. I try to subnet in my head and can most of the time, but it's nice to verify your work. When I enter 131.102.2.1/19, it comes back with exactly what I gave you above.
131.102.32.0 is just 1 of the subnets you can use. But it is only 1 of 8. www.solarwinds.net
