HI, I am new in this section forum and so hope that I am creating this thread in correct section. Even if not please help me out.
My connection is 64kbps 24hrs online connection through a XAVI X7721r+ router (please don't be shocked by the speed, this also cost a bomb in my country ). My brousers give me error masseges like "the page cannot be displayed or the server could not be located". Cleaning cache also does not help much. My router is connected to LAN card(VIA 10/100 Mbps Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter). I connect to the net directly without any dialling. I came to know about a software named "EVROX 2.1" which claims to increase net speed at least twice. Is it really so? I am not going to use the software unless I get some assurance from you guyes. If there is any other software/process please let me know My ISP provider,s technician installed a software called Dr. TCP and told me not to change/remove it. But that also didnot help. The browserfailure occurs even sometimes when ping.exe is responding. My computer is free from all types of malware/dialer/virus etc. I have the following programs up and running always- they are ZONE ALARM, SPYGUARD, TEATIMER from SPYBOT S&D, AVG CONTROL CENTER. I also configured my ZA firewall to the best of my knowladge (though I don't consider my knowladge even near half complete - so any advice in this matter will be heartily welcomed). Thank You and please help. Last edited by src2206; 04-20-2006 at 07:27 AM. |

Anything that this tool can do can also be done for free. It appears to just be a TCP/IP "tweaking" tool.
Remember the old saying: If it appears to be too good to be true...

Hi johnwill,
Other link -Microsoft MVP - Networking. Anyway as you have advised I downloaded TCPOptimizer but really don't have any idea how to configure/use it. Could you please help me? I have already made a post expressing my great gratitude towards TSF yesterday only. Thank you for bringing that corner of the forum to my notice. I would be very happy if you could take a look at that. Thank you. |

The Microsoft MVP link works for me, I'm not sure why it fails for you.
Before you start tinkering with parameters, have you done an on-line speed test? www.dslreports.com is one place that has them, and www.speedguide.com is another one. Here's my result from DSLReports.

You have pretty much all the speed you're going to get on a 64kbit connection, I don't see you improving it by screwing around with the parameters. All that can happen is you break something. You know the other old saying: Don't fix things that aren't broken!

Hi johnwill, Well you rightly pointed out that the speed that I am getting is enough for my connection. But there are few problems which are motivating me to tweak.
1. My ISP promised it to be a 64kbps connection and the download speed will not be less than 64kbps. 2. The upload spped>download speed-is it normal? 3. The speed is terribly inconsistent and on an average I do not get more than 40kbps. The line get DC very frequently too. I also found out that on my desktop ISP's techy had put a s/w named Dr. TCP. But due to some reasons the values they had set are changed . So please help me Thank you very much for whatever you already done. |

It's pretty rare that you get the full bandwidth that your ISP promises. As far as the upload speed, there could be any number of reasons that shows up the way it does.
The fact that the speed varies indicates to me that the line quality is probably somewhat poor. I can't imagine what "tweaks" you can do to fix that. If you really want to "optimize" your connection, I'd address the interior wiring, since that's a larger issue than tweaking your machine for most DSL installations. Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco service entrance. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues.
