DSL Capabilities?

How close do you have to be to a sub station to get reliable sync with dsl? I have a friend who is 10 miles using Sprint and is having connection issues. He gets and intermittant DSL signal light. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's about 2 miles...but some of the ISP's won't volunteer that info until after you call tech support...and all they guarantee is 384K.

Verizon locally has told me 18,000 feet of copper between you and the CO.

That is fraud when they try to provide service to people that are farther away then 3 miles. Well I think in this case Joe will cancel his Sprint DSL and pick up RoadRunner!

Note that many phone companies are running fiber to drops around their service area, in that case, it's the distance to the nearest fiber junction.

The way it was told to me was that the closer you are to the substation the higher speed you get, I have asked where the substation is and they would not offer up any of that information. They told me to keep calling and that they would let me know if I could get a higher speed. At that time I was only getting 384 KBPS and now that they have put in the fiber optic cabling they have been able to give me a speed of 1.5 MBPS. ...and I am not complaining.
