my connection drops after 3 days, but only on this system, HELP!!!
I'm on a custom built PC with amd processor, about 700 mg ram and a 40 g hard drive. I have had continuous problems with my PC as the internet connection goes dead. I am on a cable modem and netgear wireless router. I have 2 other system connected to the router, one wired, one wireless, and their internet connections work fine. This CPU is connected as wired to the router. With the custom CPU however, I'm using IE, the connection drops and nothing I do will bring it back. It is not a modem or router issue.
After I have a fresh reboot, and about 3 days being on the custom CPU, it just does this. The IE says the dreaded "cannot find server" error. I talked with a few computer technicians and they all said, just restart it. But the point is, one, I don't want to have to restart it. Two, I don't want this to keep happeningr. One said I might be able to reconfigure the internal IP and make it static, or something like that, as the custom system I am using may not be dealing with the regular changes in the IP from my ISP. Could anyone help and let me know how to go about changing the internal IP to make it static withOUT shutting down or restarting my system? Thank you. |

I would not go to static IP. You should not have to do that. What does your Local Area Connection icon say? What kind of IP address do you have when you can't connect? It might not work, but try in the command prompt:
"IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS" and then "IPCONFIG /RENEW" Those are my only suggestions right now. I am a trainer at an ISP tech support call center, so I have dealt with these issues before. Not fun! |
