IE, windows XP, need help
I'm on a custom built PC with amd processor, about 700 mg ram and a 40 g hard drive. I have had continuous problems with my PC as the internet connection goes dead. I am on a cable modem and netgear wireless router. I have 2 other system connected to the router, one wired, one wireless, and their internet connections work fine. This CPU is connected as wired to the router. With the custom CPU however, I'm using IE, the connection drops and nothing I do will bring it back. It is not a modem or router issue.
After I have a fresh reboot, and about 3 days being on the custom CPU, it just does this. The IE says the dreaded "cannot find server" error. I talked with a few computer technicians and they all said, just restart it. But the point is, one, I don't want to have to restart it. Two, I don't want this to keep happeningr. One said I might be able to reconfigure the internal IP and make it static, or something like that, as the custom system I am using may not be dealing with the regular changes in the IP from my ISP. Could anyone help and let me know how to go about changing the internal IP to make it static withOUT shutting down or restarting my system? Thank you. |

Hi,
I am going to move this over the the networking crew so they can take a look at your issues. If they don't find any answers, they can send it back and we will take another look at this issue.

We need make/model of the network adapter in use, as well as the version/patch level of Windows. Is this wired or wireless? The idea that you'd have to do something special just because this is a "custom" built machines is absurd, networking works the same way for a Dell, Gateway, or a home brew system. When the system fails, do this:
For 98 or ME, Start, Run, COMMAND to open a DOS window and type: For 2K or XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type: IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
