network password problem
Hi I recently set up 6 machines on a workgroup with a shared folder on each but when I tried to access any of them I'm asked for a username and password which I didn't set in the first place?? I can see them all in my network places but as I say when I double click on the icon it asks for password. I'm not really any good at this networking carry on so any help would be most welcome
thanksHenry |

Did you make sure the "Shared Documents" folder is actually being shared? Sometimes you have to go to My Computer and adjust the folder. Click on the Shared Documents folder and then Properties and then the sharing tab. Make sure the folder is being shared, if it is not follow the instructions to enable sharing. If asked to choose to run the wizard, just say enable file sharing. Then once all that is done it should have another checkbox to allow you to share the folder on the network. Then you should give it a name such as Shared1 or Shared2 and then check the approporate options such as allowing others to change your files.
Also make sure you don't have a firewall on the pcs blocking access. Another thing is that if Kaspersy Anti Virus (however you spell it) is installed the other PCs need it installed to access shared documents on the PC with Kaspersy. Hope it helps BMR777

If you create an account with the same name/password on the machine with the shared resource as is used by the client machine, the password prompt will go away. As long as security isn't an issue, you can also enable the Guest account.
