Sudden loss of wireless network
This is my first post, so thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this mystery.
I have been living with my roommate since October. When I moved in I turned on my computer and it automatically picked up his wireless connection. Nice and easy, until about a week ago, when I suddenly stopped receiving any signal at all. Neither of us have installed any new software or changed any settings. Also, I have taken my computer to campus and it picks up the wireless network there without any problems. He has a Verizon DSL connection via a Westell 327 modem. We both have Macs OSX. I have an Airport card, he doesn't. We called Verizon and they talked him through re-setting his connection (I had somehow screwed it up in fiddling with it trying to get my connection back) but they seem to feel their responsibility ends once ONE of our computers is connected. They told me to call Apple, which I can't do since my machine is ancient and very much out of warranty. I did call campus tech support and they had me try everything they could think of but to no avail. I went to the 192.168.1.1 site, and according to the information there, the wireless network was up and running fine My roommate does not have any passwords on the network. When I try to connect to the network (named after the long string of numbers on his modem) it used to say "error connecting to 05b4..." but didn't give any options for determining what the error is. Now it has stopped even doing that and just sort of sits there. The network name doesn't show up anymore in the Airport menu. It shows up in the Airport Network System Preferences but choosing "apply now" causes no result at all. We also reset the modem, but all that did was disrupt my roommate's connection and necessitate another call to Verizon to get it back. The modem has a "wireless" light that is blinking green very quickly. The DSL lights and the Internet lights are steady. Anyone have any idea what the blinking green light means, or why this network would suddenly stop working, after nearly a year of perfect functioning? |

So does ur roomates computer plugin to the wireless network or does he have a wireless card too? It sounds to me like ur wireless card might have gone bad but you said that u can connect on campus...so that rules out... can u try plugging directly into the network and see if it picks up that network? If so then i would see if u can check the wireless settings that comes up from ur roomates and manually put them in ur network settings. If it were Windows and not MacOS then i'd be much more helpful.
